Career Transitions

“The difference between the old ballplayer and the new ballplayer is the jersey.  The old ballplayer cared about the name on the front.  The new ballplayer cares about the name on the back.” – Steve Garvey

The beginning and end of a sports career can be a time of huge transition.

An example would be a young footballer who suddenly makes the first team, with all the pressures that money and fame can bring. How does he handle these changes and his response to them?

At the other end is the rugby player at the end of his career who doesn’t know how to best use his skills and knowledge to build a career outside of playing that will fulfill him as much as his time on the pitch. What will excite him enough after a successful playing career?

In both circumstances the Academy of the Sporting Mind can provide the support and insight needed to help players take the appropriate actions in a way that is best for them.
