Sporting Performance
“Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.” – Muhammad Ali
Sporting performance is fundamentally about being the best you can be on any given day. You cannot control they opposition or the conditions but you can turn up and perform at the highest standard possible.
A major part of any sport is your mental preparation and your internal reactions when in competition. The Academy of the Sporting Mind will help you to understand how you function on the inside whether in training or competing. We will then be able to give you the insight, tools and techniques to fulfil your potential.
A sound mental approach will not only bring improvements in itself. It will result in a greater commitment to physical and technical training and an absolute belief that you can achieve what you set out to do.
You will begin to understand the things that go on inside of you when you play your chosen sport and be given the techniques to overcome those that get in your way.
Below is a quote from Jack Nicklaus: -
“I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. First I see the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes, and I see the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there is a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality.”
Now this would be just a small part of his pre-shot routine. This is a guy who knew clearly how he did what he did, and it is fair to say that he had some success with it.
